Quick answer (46 words): This page answers the questions nursing applicants ask most often, in short. Each answer links to a fuller treatment. No 2026 date appears anywhere on this site, because the admission dates are set by the conducting body and none has been published that we can verify.

Getting in

Is NEET required for B.Sc Nursing in Tamil Nadu?

No. B.Sc Nursing admission runs through the state's own nursing admission process, with its own application, merit process and counselling. NEET is the entrance for medical and dental courses. → Is NEET required for B.Sc Nursing in Tamil Nadu?

What is the B.Sc Nursing admission process?

Nine steps: prepare documents, watch for the notification, apply, confirm the submission, merit list, document verification, choice filling, allotment, and report to the allotted college within its deadline. → B.Sc Nursing Admission Process 2026

What is the last date to apply?

Set by the conducting body and published in its notification. No date is stated on this site because none is available from a source we can verify. Treat any published closing date as a week earlier than it is. → B.Sc Nursing Last Dates

When does admission open?

Check the conducting body's own admissions page for a current-cycle notification and a live application portal. If neither exists, admissions have not opened — that is a definite answer. → Are Nursing Admissions Open for 2026?

There are so many dates. Which one do I want?

A nursing admission has eight — notification, application open, application close, entrance, result, counselling, allotment, reporting — then the class commencement date. Work out which you mean before searching. → Which Date Means What

Counselling and seats

How is a nursing seat actually allotted?

The system works down the merit list and gives each candidate the highest choice on their list that is still vacant, then moves on. Your rank sets when you are considered, not what you get. → Rank List, Merit and Seat Allotment

How should I order my choice list?

By genuine preference, always — the system gives you the highest available choice, so there is no strategy in listing a less-preferred college higher. Fill every college you would attend; never one you would refuse. → Choice Filling

How many seats are actually available to me?

Fewer than the college's intake figure. The sanctioned intake is divided between government and management quota, then by category, so you compete for the seats in your own cell. → B.Sc Nursing Seats

Is "direct admission" real?

Not as an official category. What exists is management quota — published seats, identical eligibility, a published fee, through the official process. A seat sold for cash outside that is not an admission. → Direct Admission and Management Quota

What will I have to pay, and when?

Several separate payments: application fee, counselling registration, any entrance fee, the allotment payment, then the college's first-term fee. Keep the allotment-stage amount reachable within a day. → Every Payment in the Admission Chain

The course

What do you study in B.Sc Nursing?

Year one is the applied sciences and nursing foundations; years two and three the clinical specialities; year four community health, research and management. Clinical postings run alongside theory from the first year. → B.Sc Nursing Course Details

When do classes actually start?

After the admission process closes, on a date set by the affiliating university and communicated to admitted students. It is the last date in the cycle to be fixed — do not book non-refundable travel against a guess. → When B.Sc Nursing Classes Start

What do all these abbreviations mean?

RN is Registered Nurse, RM Registered Midwife, GNM General Nursing and Midwifery, P.B.B.Sc Post Basic Bachelor of Science in Nursing. "SC" in community health nursing means Sub-Centre. → Nursing Abbreviations Decoded

Where do I check a college is genuine?

Three registers, not one: Indian Nursing Council recognition for your course, the affiliating university's list, and the current cycle's participating institution list. Check all three. → Nursing Colleges in Tamil Nadu

After you qualify

When should I register with the nurses council?

As soon as your degree and internship are complete. It is what permits you to practise, employers require the number, and post-graduate admission requires it to be live — and renewal is slow. → Nursing Council Registration

What will I earn?

It depends on sector, employer, experience and qualification, and the spread is wide. No figure is published on this site. Check government pay scales, current job advertisements, and nurses already doing the job. → Staff Nurse Salary in Tamil Nadu

What comes after a nursing degree?

The ladder continues: M.Sc Nursing, then doctoral study, opening teaching, specialist and administrative roles. A GNM holder reaches it through Post Basic B.Sc Nursing. → The Nursing Ladder

Post Basic B.Sc Nursing

What does P.B.B.Sc stand for?

Post Basic Bachelor of Science in Nursing — a two-year degree for candidates who already hold a GNM diploma and a live council registration. It converts a diploma-holding nurse into a degree-holding one. → P.B.B.Sc Nursing Full Form

How does the Post Basic cycle work?

Five stages: notification, application, entrance where the conducting body holds one, counselling with choice filling, then allotment and reporting. → Post Basic B.Sc Nursing 2026

Who can fill the application form?

A GNM holder from a recognised institution with a live nurses and midwives council registration. Some conducting bodies also require clinical experience after the diploma. → Post Basic Application Form 2026

M.Sc Nursing

What is the eligibility?

A B.Sc or Post Basic B.Sc Nursing degree from a recognised institution with the specified minimum aggregate, a live council registration, and clinical experience after the degree where the conducting body requires it. → M.Sc Nursing Eligibility

How many years is it?

Two, full-time. Year one covers advanced nursing, research methodology, education and management; year two is advanced speciality practice and the compulsory dissertation. → How Many Years Is M.Sc Nursing?

Is there one national entrance exam?

No. Selection is conducted separately by state bodies, universities and some national institutes, so the exam you sit depends on where you apply. → PG Nursing Entrance Exams

What is on the paper?

The B.Sc Nursing syllabus, tested objectively — medical-surgical nursing as the largest block, then child health and obstetric nursing, community and mental health, foundations, management, research and the applied sciences. → M.Sc Nursing Entrance Exam 2026

How do I get a government M.Sc seat?

Apply to the body conducting post-graduate nursing admission in that state, not to the college. Government colleges have no separate application form. → How to Apply for M.Sc Nursing in a Government College
