Quick answer (46 words): The only reliable way to check is the conducting body's own admissions page — if the application portal is live and accepting forms, admissions are open. A college website or an aggregator saying "admissions open" is not evidence, because those pages frequently say it all year.
Why you cannot trust a page that says "admissions open"
Because most of them say it permanently.
"Admissions open 2026" is one of the most-used phrases in Indian education marketing, and it appears on a very large number of pages that are describing an intention rather than a state. It generates enquiries whether or not any process is running, which means it is displayed year-round.
This page will not do that. It also will not tell you the current status, for a related reason: a status claim written today is wrong within weeks, and this project does not publish things it cannot keep true. What it will give you is a two-minute check you can run yourself, on any day, and get the right answer.
The two-minute check
Step one: know which body conducts your admission. Not the college — the state selection body or health-science university that runs nursing admission where you are applying. If you do not know which it is, that is the first thing to establish, and it is more important than any date.
Step two: open that body's admissions or notifications page. Its own site. Not a search result page, not an aggregator, not a news article.
Step three: look for two things. A notification or prospectus PDF for the current cycle, and a live application portal. A notification with a stated window tells you when. A portal that accepts a registration tells you it is open right now.
Step four: if neither exists, admissions have not opened. That is a definite answer, not an absence of one. It means the cycle has not started and no other source has better information — including the ones displaying dates.
Bookmark that page. Check it twice a week outside the expected window and daily inside it. That is the whole discipline.
What does "open" mean at each stage?
The word covers several different states, and knowing which one you are in tells you what to do today.
Notification released, portal not yet live. The dates exist and are published. You can read the eligibility, assemble documents and prepare, but you cannot apply yet. This is the best possible moment to be in — you have full information and time.
Application window open. You can apply now. Do it early rather than on the closing day; portals are slow under load and errors made in a hurry are the ones that get forms rejected.
Applications closed, process running. No new applications. If you missed it, an extension is possible and is not something to plan around.
Counselling open. Only for candidates already in the process, at the stage of verification, choice filling and allotment.
Reporting open. Only for allotted candidates, and the window is short.
Cycle complete. Everything has closed, and the next opportunity is the following cycle — or, in a few processes, a supplementary round where vacancies remain.
Aggregator pages tend to say "open" for all six of these states, which is why the word on its own is uninformative.
Are all three nursing courses open at the same time?
No, and this catches people out.
B.Sc Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing and M.Sc Nursing typically run on separate notifications and separate schedules, sometimes months apart, and sometimes conducted by different bodies within the same state. A candidate who checks the B.Sc calendar and assumes it applies to Post Basic can miss the window entirely.
Check the notification for your course, not for nursing generally.
What if you have already applied?
Then your status question has a different and better answer: check your own application account.
Once you have applied, the portal shows your status, and official communication goes to the email and mobile you registered. Hall tickets, results, counselling calls, allotment orders and reporting instructions all arrive that way.
Two consequences. Keep those contact details current — a number changed mid-cycle can cost you a seat quietly. And check the account rather than the news; your own status page is more accurate about you than any announcement.
Is JKKN accepting applications?
We are not going to write a permanent "yes" on a page, for exactly the reason set out above.
What is stable and true: the Sresakthimayeil Institute of Nursing and Research is Indian Nursing Council approved and registered with the TNNMC, and NAAC accredited. It offers B.Sc Nursing (60 seats), Post Basic B.Sc Nursing (50 seats) and M.Sc Nursing (25 seats). Published management-quota fees are Rs 1,50,000 per year (female) / Rs 1,75,000 (male) for B.Sc, Rs 65,000 for Post Basic and Rs 75,000 to Rs 1,00,000 for M.Sc; government quota is as per government norms.
Admission runs through the applicable state route rather than through the college directly, as it does for every approved institution — so the status question is really about the conducting body's cycle, not about ours.
For the current position on any of the three courses, call the admission office. You will get the actual status, including "it has not opened yet" when that is the answer.
FAQ
Are B.Sc Nursing admissions open for 2026?
Check the conducting body's own admissions page for a current-cycle notification and a live application portal. If neither is present, admissions have not opened. No status is stated here because it would be wrong within weeks.
How do I know if the application portal is really open?
A genuinely open portal accepts a registration and displays its own closing date. A page that says "admissions open" without a working portal behind it is marketing, not status.
Do B.Sc, Post Basic and M.Sc Nursing open at the same time?
Usually not. They run on separate notifications and schedules, sometimes months apart and sometimes under different conducting bodies. Check the notification for your specific course.
A website says admissions are open — can I trust it?
Not on its own. "Admissions open" is displayed year-round on many pages regardless of whether a process is running. Verify against the conducting body's notification and portal.
I have already applied. How do I check my status?
Through your own application account on the portal, and through the email and mobile you registered. Those channels carry hall tickets, results, counselling calls and allotment orders, so keep them current.
What if I missed the application window?
Extensions sometimes happen and cannot be planned around. Watch for a supplementary round where the process runs one, and otherwise prepare properly for the next cycle.
