Onam celebration-2024
A Day of Cultural Celebration at Sresakthimayeil Institute of Nursing and Research
The festival of Onam, a vibrant celebration that marks the harvest season and the homecoming of
the mythical King Mahabali, was celebrated with enthusiasm and grandeur on 13th September 2024
at Sresakthimayeil Institute of Nursing and Research, Kumarapalayam. It was a day filled with
cultural richness, unity, and the essence of Kerala’s traditions.

A Day to Remember
The day began with the creation of a beautiful Pookalam, a traditional floral carpet, at the entrance
of the institute. Students, faculty, and staff came together to design intricate patterns using colorful
flowers, symbolizing the spirit of harmony and teamwork. The sight of the Pookalam brought an air
of festivity that set the tone for the entire day.
Cultural Extravaganza
The celebrations continued with a variety of cultural performances that highlighted the diversity and
talent within our institution. Students showcased traditional dance forms such as Thiruvathira,
blending grace with rhythmic movements, while others performed classical songs and engaging skits
depicting the rich folklore of Kerala. The performances were not only entertaining but also a
reminder of the deep-rooted cultural values that festivals like Onam help preserve.

Fun and Games
No Onam celebration is complete without traditional games! Students participated in a series of
exciting Onam games like tug-of-war, sack race, and more, fostering a sense of camaraderie and fun
among everyone. These games brought back fond memories of simpler times and highlighted the
importance of physical activity and friendly competition in building community spirit.
The Feast: Onam Sadhya
One of the most anticipated parts of the day was the grand Onam Sadhya, a traditional vegetarian
feast served on banana leaves. This sumptuous meal, consisting of various delicious dishes, was a
culinary journey through Kerala’s rich food heritage. The students and staff enjoyed every bite, and
the collective dining experience symbolized the togetherness and unity that Onam represents.
A Celebration of Unity and Tradition
The Onam celebrations at Sresakthimayeil Institute were not just about honoring a festival; they
were a reflection of our institution’s commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering an inclusive
environment. Through the performances, games, and food, we were reminded of the power of
unity, the beauty of tradition, and the joy of coming together as a community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making this event a grand success.
The enthusiasm and participation of students, faculty, and staff truly made this Onam celebration a
day to remember. As we bid farewell to another Onam, we look forward to many more celebrations
of culture, unity, and joy in the years to come.
